Baleswar, Mar 6:

Five days after the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of the Odisha Police filed a charge sheet against former minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Raghunath Mohanty, his son and three other members of his family in a dowry torture case in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate(SDJM) in Baleswar, Kishore Kumar Choudhury, father of Barsa Swony Choudhury, today met the Baleswar SP Jayanarayan Pankaj after receiving an anonymous letter threatening an acid attack on his daughter.

During the meeting, he requested the SP to provide adequate security to his daughter.

“The letter has warned my daughter to refrain from any attempt to enter politics. It says if she makes any such attempt, she would be attacked with acid,” Choudhury told media persons, adding that this might be the handiwork of the supporters of Raghunath Mohanty.

“I have asked for a thorough examination of the postcard that the family members of Barsa received today. The postcard would be sent to the fingerprint section which I hope will help the police to nab the miscreants,” the SP said.

It may be mentioned that the Odisha government had provided security to Barsa Swony after she met chief minister Naveen Patnaik on February 21.

Barsa had filed a dowry torture case against her father-in-law Raghunath Mohanty, husband Rajashree and others last year.

Raghunath Mohanty who was dropped from the Naveen Patnaik ministry as law minister later, was arrested from Kolkata along with wife. Police later arrested Barsa’s husband.
