Festive spirit grips quarantine centres in Odisha as inmates observe Savitri Brata

Cuttack/ Ganjam: While all married women celebrated Savitri Amavasya today at their respective homes amidst the lockdown for well-being and long life of their husbands, a quarantine centre at Khandahata in Athagarh of Cuttack district made special arrangements for its inmates to observe the festival with their better-halves on the centre’s premises.

Sourced said Badanauput Sarpanch Sasmita Raut took charge to make the arrangements in the quarantine centre that is currently housing several Odia migrant returnees.

As no one is allowed inside the campus, all the inmates were seen lined up near the entrance gate with their face-masks on and waiting for their turns to perform the ritual with their partners, who came to visit them today. The couples performed all the rituals adhering to the social distancing norms and the sight was indeed fascinating.

A similar scene was also witnessed in Hinjilicut area of Ganjam district. Along with the quarantine centres, the district administration made arrangements for the woman detainees in the district jail to help them perform the Puja. The women jail inmates were provided with the necessary items for the Puja.

However, Puri seemed desolate today as Sri Mandir, which is thronged by scores of devotees on this occasion every year, had a handful of women devotees today for offering of prayers. Some devotees were also seen visiting local temples in the pilgrim town to perform the Puja.
