Financial aid released to 2,463 Shree Jagannatha Temple servitor families

Puri: In the wake of financial losses suffered by servitors of Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri following the Odisha government’s decision not to allow devotees for ‘darshan’ at temples during the Covid lockdown, the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA) allocated Rs 2.46 crore financial assistance to families of the servitors.

SJTA Administrator (Ritual) Jitendra Kumar Sahu informed as the public ‘darshan’ has not been allowed during the lockdown, the servitors and their families have been under financial stress. Considering the troubles faced by them, the temple administration released Rs 10,000 each to 2,463 families of the servitors.

Earlier, during the first wave of Covid when the temple was closed for public ‘darshan’, the SJTA had released Rs 20,000 each to the families of servitors in four installments.

The SJTA Administrator (ritual) added reward for the ‘Palia Sevaks’ has also been doubled since April 1, 2021 as they have been performing their duties amid the pandemic.

The 14-day State-wide lockdown has been in force since May 5 to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease.
