First-ever roller skating championship in Odisha on Nov 22

Good news for adventure sport lovers in Odisha. For the first time, a state-level roller skating championship will be organized here at the Kalinga Stadium on November 22 to promote the sport.

The day-long event—‘Odisha State Open Roller Skating Championship’– will be organized by Bhubaneswar Roller Skating Association and Odisha Skating Academy.

“We have many students practising regularly at Kalinga Stadium. We do have trained professional to enable, encourage and endow every student in providing enjoyable and fruitful skating skills to represent in state and national events,” Partha Sarathi Jena, founder and General Secretary of Odisha Skating Academy and Bhubaneswar Roller Skating Association said.

In August this year, we had invited Gangahar (former national champion and Referee Roller Skating Federation of India) and organised a Roller Skating Camp in which we had trained many aspiring skaters. In order to popularised, this sports/game and to raise the standard of skating in Odisha, we are organising this championship, he added.

Skaters from various districts schools, colleges, skating organisations and institutions from age 4 years to 16 years and above have been invited to participate in the open championship. Special provision for food and accommodation has been made for out station participants so that they do not face any inconvenience.

The event is scheduled to be inaugurated by Governor SC Jamir at 7 am.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

6 am: Skaters reporting

7 am: Inauguration by Governor

8 am onwards: event starts

1 pm to 2 pm: Lunch break

2 pm onwards: second session starts

6 pm: prize distribution
