Five of family killed as truck rams into house in Odisha

In a tragic incident, five members of a family were killed when a loaded truck ran over their houses in Odisha’s Sonepur district late on Thursday night.

The deceased have been identified as Nabin Kumar Bag, his wife Binodini, sister Brundabati, son Susant and daughter Jayanti.

According to reports, a googs laden truck (OR-03-4449) was on its way from Bargarh to Bolangir on NH-26 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran over the house of Nabin at Cherupali Chhak under Salebhata police outpost in Sonepur killing five family members while they were asleep.

Nabin, a ward member, used to run a hotel at Dunguripali.

Irate locals  staged a road blockade keeping the dead bodies on the road. The blockade, however, has not been lifted after police and local officials arrived at the spot and assured the agitators of due compensation to the victims.

Efforts are on to nab the driver and the helper of the truck, who fled the area after the incident took place, police said.
