Five held for arms smuggling in Odisha

Cuttack, July 17:

The commissionerate police today arrested five criminals in Odisha’s Cuttack city and seized two automatic guns, four rounds of live cartridges and country-made bombs from their possession.

The police, after interrogating the accused, forwarded them to the court.

The arrested have been identified as Manish Narang (32) of Punjabi Lane in the Madhupatna area of Cuttack, Pratap Chandra Rout (28) of Hatabanga village under Barchana police station limits of Jajpur district, Suraj Kumar Bhoi (22) of Ohala village in Jagatsinghpur district, Putul alias Soumya Ranjan Rout of Balisahi in Badambadi area of Cuttack and Bhalu alias Mukhtar Shah (32) of Bhabanipur under Biridi police station limits in Jajpur district.

Briefing newsmen soon after the arrest, police commissioner Dr RP Sharma said that the five arrested criminals were involved in gun running since a long time and sold them in Odisha after purchasing from Bihar.
