Five Indian students killed in highway crash in Canada

New Delhi: Five Indian students were killed and two others were injured in a highway crash near Trenton in Canada.

High Commissioner of India to Canada, Ajay Bisaria, informed it in a tweet today.

According to media reports, a passenger van in which Indian students were travelling collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 401 in Quinte West in Ontario on Saturday. The incident occurred at around 3:45 a.m Canana time on March 12.

The deceased students have been identified as Harpreet Singh, Jaspinder Singh, Karanpal Singh, Mohit Chouhan and Pawan Kumar. The injured students have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. All the students were aged between 21 and 24 years. They were the students in the Greater Toronto and Montreal areas.

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar mourned the death of five students in Canada and offered condolence to their bereaved families in a tweet on Monday.

He assured that the Consulate Geberal of India in Canada will provide all necessary support and assistance.
