Five killed in road mishaps in Odisha

Five persons were killed in three separate road mishaps in Odisha today. Three persons were killed and two others sustained grievous injuries as an SUV collided head-on with a truck at Jaraka Road in Odisha’s Jajpur district in the wee hours today.

According to reports, the SUV carrying passengers from 24 Parganas in West Bengal was heading towards Bhubaneswar with a patient for treatment. However, the ill-fated vehicle met with an accident at around 4.30 am today.

While three passengers were killed, two others—including a woman– were injured in the incident. The injured were admitted to a nearby government-run hospital for treatment. One of the critically injured persons has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) as his condition deteriorated.

The deceased have been identified as Sukesh Saha, his wife Pratima Saha and Sukesh’s friend.

Dharmasala police sent the bodies for post-mortem to Badchana hospital and have begun an investigation into the incident.

In a similar incident, one passenger was killed and at least 20 others sustained injuries as the bus overturned near Tulasipalli on Bhanjanagar-Daspalla road. The private minibus was on its way from Daspalla to Berhampur.

The injured have been admitted to Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital.

In another incident, a truck knocked down a bicycle rider killing a child and injuring the rider in Kendrapara this morning.

The incident took place at Maladihi on the Jammu-Marsaghai road in Kendrapara. The injured identified as Bhima Swain was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.

Following the incident, locals staged a road blockade in protest against the incident and demanded compensation to the victim’s family.
