Five killed, six injured in lightning strike in Odisha

At least five persons were killed and six seriously injured in lightning strikes in different places of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha today.

Those killed are Sukul Murmu and Mansingh Soren of Badapeta village; Ombari Tudu of Badasahi block; Gurubari Tudu of Udurubani village and Sorojini Behera of Srabana village, reports said.

The seriously injured include two children. The injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here.

Reports said two persons were killed and four others of a family were critically injured in Badapeta village under Baripada block in a lightning strike while they were taking a bath in a pond as part of the tenth-day rituals (rituals performed on the death of a Hindu person).

A labourer Ombari Tudu was killed in a lightning strike on the spot while working on a road construction project at Gudialbandh under Badasahi block.

Similarly, Gurubari Tudu of Udurubani village under Udala block died when lightning struck her while she was sitting on the verandah of her house while Sorojini Behera of Srabana village under Kaptipada block died while sitting in her house.
