Flight service from Odisha capital to Rourkela to start from September

In a significant development, the flight service from Odisha capital to steel city Rourkela will begin from September this year.

An MoU between the airport authority and state government has been signed for flight service operation between Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The flight service on the route will be launched under UDAN Scheme, said Bhubaneswar Airport Director R Mahalingam.

The maximum air fare will be Rs 2,500. The airstrip modernisation project is underway in Rourkela and it will be completed in next two-three months. The flight from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela will be operated from September, he said.

The demand is growing for flight operation between Rourkela-Bhubaneswar and Rourkela-Kolkata. If the private aviation companies will get subsidy, the flight can be operated from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata via Rourkela, sources in Bhubaneswar airport said.

Recently, a 6-member central team had visited Rourkela airstrip and gave nod for the flight operation to steel city from state capital.
