Flood situation improves in Odisha; Hirakud closes two more gates

Following scanty rainfall in the upper and lower catchments, the flood situation in all major rivers of Odisha has improved substantially.

Hirakud Dam authorities at Burla in Sambalpur have closed two more gates since Sunday night. At present, floodwater from the reservoir was being released through 20 gates.

While the water level of the reservoir stood at 622.54 feet, 1,67,433 lakh cusecs of water per second was entering the reservoir and 3,49, 316 lakh cusecs of water per second was being released from the reservoir.

Besides, 4351 cusecs of water per second was being released into the canal while 18.123 cusecs of water per second was being released through the power channel.

There was a rainfall of 2702 mm in the upper catchment and 23.85 mm in lower catchment by Sunday evening.
