Flood situation worsens further in Odisha’s Malakangiri

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Malkangiri, Sep 20:

The situation in Odisha’s Malkangiri district has worsened further following four days of incessant rains induced by low pressure resulting in flash floods and throwing life completely out of gear in the district.

With flood waters flowing over bridges at three places – MV 11, Pangama and Kankarkonda – all road links to the district headquarters town of Malkangiri remained severed, cutting it off from the rest of the world.

One of the two bikers, who were swept away while crossing the bridge at MV 11 on Saturday, has been rescued. While the bike has been recovered, the other biker remains missing.

Connectivity between Malkangiri and Jeypore, Balimela and Kalimela have been  severed.

While knee-deep flood waters remained stagnant in Malkangiri town, roads remained submerged under flood waters in other places of the district.

Water levels of different rivers in the district, including Potteru, have risen due to unabated rains. While rains had reduced at dawn today, it again increased at around 9 am worsening the situation further.
