Flood water cuts off roads, maroons lakhs in Odisha

Road communication in most parts Odisha were disrupted while hundreds of villages were marooned by raging flood waters following heavy rains in the upper and lower catchments of all major rivers in the state.

Reports from the district said six panchayats have been surrounded by the floodwater of Baitarani following a breach in the embankment at Patapur.

In Bhadrak districts, floodwater of Baitarani has entered 13 panchayats of Bhandaripokhari and Dhamnagar blocks.

In Baleswar district, five villages under Nilagiri block have been surrounded by the floodwater of Sona river. Road communication has been disrupted following the collapse of a bridge on Teliapada-Harijpur road in Oupada block of the district.

A youth of Naranpur village of Soro block in Baleswar district was swept away by the floodwater of Kansabansa river flowing above the danger level, reports said.

In Kendrapara district, floodwater has entered Tihabarampur village of Hayatpur panchayat in Patkura block.

In Keonjhar district, road communication between Anandpur and Bhadrak has been disrupted due to floodwater overflowing at Charinalia while a Bol Bam devotees was reportedly swept away by the floodwater of Baitarani at Jhadeswar peeth.

Road communication between Patana-Dhenkikot, Patana-Keonjhar, Harichandanpur-Ghatagan and Telkoi-Keonjhar has been disrupted due to overflowing of rainwater on these roads, reports said.

Salagan, Chandanpur, Madhapur and Managobindpur villages under Badasahi block of Mayurbhanj district have been surrounded by the floodwater of Gangahara river.

Road communication to Udala block in Mayurbhanj district has been disrupted due to overflowing floodwater of Sona and Kala rivers over a number of bridges. Besides, floodwater has also severed road connection between Mitrapur and Udala.

Meanwhile, water level of Budhabalanga river was flowing above the danger mark at NH-5

In Cuttack district, the Ostia village of Uttarbanki panchayat under Banki block has been surrounded by floodwater of Mahanadi that has entered the temple of Maa Bhattarika at Badamba under Narsinghpur block.

Besides, floodwater was overflowing three feet above the Chandrapa bridge at Banki disrupting road communication between Banki and Kalapathara.

Road communication between Banki and Bhubaneswar has also been disrupted due to overflowing floodwater of Mahanadi.

In Narsinghpur sub division of Cuttack district, floodwater of Duimundia nullah was flowing at a height of about six feet at Chakamunda Chhak. As a result, road communication to three panchayats has been severed.

A woman was swept away by the floodwater of Mahanadi at Padanala village in Narsinghpur.

Road communication to 14 villages of Tigiria block and four panchayats of Banki block has been disrupted due to overflowing floodwater of Mahanadi on Gainala road near Athagarh.

A youth of Kalaragada village was swept away while taking bath at Sapua river near Athagarh.

In Deogarh district, floodwater of Mahanadi has entered Rangia Dhipasahi of Saida village.

Road communication between Deogarh and Angul was disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater of Tikara river at a height of about seven feet at Kundheigola  on NH-53 in Deogarh district.

In Kamakhayagarh of Dhenkanal district, floodwater of Ramiala river at Rekula has severed road communication between Kamakhayagarh and Dhenkanal. Besides, release of excess water from Dadaraghati dam has surrounded two villages in Kamkhyanagar.

In Puri, floodwater of Daya river was flowing over the danger level at Kanas. Reports said that the water level of Makara and Rajoa rivers were flowing near the danger level.

In Nayagarh district, 68 villages of five panchayats in Gania block have been surrounded by floodwater.

Besides, road communication to three panchayats was disrupted after a culvert was swept away by floodwater between Danagadi and Nayagarh and under Bansapala block.

In Phulbani district, road communication to two villages under Tumudibandha block has been disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater of Raul river.

In Phulbani, road communication between Gocchhapada-Balandapada was disrupted following a landslide at Bilurighati.

In Rayagada district, floodwater of Bansadhara was flowing above the danger level at Gunupur while hundreds of acres of paddy field were submerged after a breach in the minor irrigation project at Bhalumaska under Sikharpai panchayat of Kalyansinghpur block.

Road communication between Rayagada and Kalahandi has been disrupted after a portion of road was swept away by floodwater at Masani Chhak in Muniguda block.

In Kalahandi district, road communication has been disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater of Hati river at a height of three feet over Hati bridge at Junagarh.

Reports from Bolangir said that the floodwater of Tel river was flowing at a height of five feet over Siletapada bridge as a result of which road communication to Belagan has been disrupted.

Road communication to three villages of Badagan block in Sundgargarh district has been disrupted due to heavy rain.
