Forensic team starts probe into restaurant blast case in Odisha’s capital

To ascertain the real cause behind the massive blast in a restaurant near Khandagiri square which killed three and injured four on Diwali eve, in Odisha’s Capital, state and district forensic teams have started a joint probe, today.

The massive blast was caused by explosion in two generator sets that had killed three people and injured four, in the Seven Miles restaurant, on November 10th.

The team of six officials consisting of three assistant directors and three researchers visited the Khandagiri-based restaurant and started their investigation, according to reports.

The explosion was so powerful that body parts of the victims, Rajesh Sahoo, Kasinath Samantaray and Silu Mishra, all employees of the restaurant, were hurled some 200 meteres away.

The injured have been identified as Ashok Choudhary, Tapan Beura, Bibekananda Mohapatra and Prananath Sahu.

According to police, eyewitnesses have said that a firecracker had landed on the generator causing the blast; the exact cause of the explosion is being investigated.

No customer was present at the restaurant when the mishap occurred.
