Former BMC deputy commissioner detained for misbehaving Odia album actress

Bhubaneswar: An Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer identified as Jogeswar Naik has landed in trouble today as an Odia album actress accused Naik of outraging her modesty. The accused officer who worked as former deputy commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been detained.

The 29-year-old woman, Priyanka Dash, is a resident of Shreeram Nagar of Old Town area under Lingaraj police limits here and runs a salon and spa in the city. Acting on an FIR lodged by the woman, police have detained Naik in this connection for quizzing.

A senior official of Lingaraj police station said, Naik allegedly asked for undue favour from the complainant by promising her to cast in an Odia album in September 2020. After the young woman opposed his advances and misbehaviour, the accused hurled abuses and mentally harassed her.

“Earlier in 2020, he (Naik) had produced an album for me and since then he has been asking me to sleep with him. Moreover, he blackmailed me and threatened that if I don’t give in then he will spread rumours that I am a sex worker and charge Rs 10,000 for this. Despite my objections, he kept on threatening me and calling me (over the mobile phone) every night. He used filthy words during conversations,” the complainant expressed.

On several occasions, Naik attempted to rape her, she alleged in the FIR.

On the other hand, the accused bureaucrat refuted the allegations levelled against him. On the contrary, the accused claimed that the victim used to ask for money from him. “You pay me and spend time with me,” Naik said claiming the woman to have offered.

“Priyanka took a total of Rs four lakh from me at different times as a loan to meet her expenses. After I insisted on refund of my hard-earned money, she started levelling charges of misconduct against me,” the accused Naik said.

Lingaraj police have registered a case and launched a probe.
