Former bureaucrat Sunil Mishra pipped to be next CIC of Odisha

Former Indian Revenue Service officer Sunil Kumar Mishra is likely to emerge as the consensual candidate to head the Chief Information Commission (CIC) of Odisha.

In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, discussion was held on the appointment of Chief Information Commissioner.

While Sunil Kumar Mishra is said to be the front-runner for the coveted post, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Upendra Nath Behera and former Tripura Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Panda are also in the race.

Notably, Sunil Kumar Mishra, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Odisha Region superannuated this year.

The meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly Narasingh Mishra and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh.

“Candidature of three was discussed in the meeting for the CIC post. All are deserving for the post. The government will take a decision in this regard,” Narasingha Mishra told media after the meeting.

It may be mentioned here that the post of the State Chief Information Commissioner (SCIC) is lying vacant after resignation of Tarun Kanti Mishra on February 11 last year. Mishra stepped down from the post six months ahead of his completion of the tenure citing personal reasons.
