Former cop hacked to death by friend in Odisha’s Sundargarh

The deceased was identified as Kalebar Pradhan , a former constable from Colony Pada under Dalki panchayat and the accused his friend Samir Kisan who has been nabbed following the incident.

Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a former police personnel was hacked to death by his friend after the duo reportedly had an argument in an inebriated state in Raiboga tehsil of Sundargarh district in Odisha on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Kalebar Pradhan , a former constable from Colony Pada under Dalki panchayat and the accused his friend Samir Kisan who has been nabbed following the incident.

According to police sources, Kalebar and Samir met on Thursday for a couple of drinks. After getting drunk, Kalebar invited Samir to stay over at his place. After the latter agreed, the duo went on to consume some more alcohol. In their inebriated state, they reportedly had an agreement over some issue. Surprisingly, the two of them later slept on the same cot following the altercation. However, Samir got up at around 5 am and in a vindictive mood, attacked Kalebar with a sharp weapon inflicting serious injuries on his head and waist. As Kalebar fell from his bed and collapsed, Samir fled the scene. Hearing screams, neighbours reached the spot and informed police who immediately arrived and rushed Kalebar to a hospital in Burla (Sambalpur). However, Kalebar succumbed while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, police started searching for the accused and managed to track him down and arrest him from Raiboga bridge. A case has been registered and further investigation is on. A forensic team from Sundargarh has arrived for further investigation.
