Former Odisha MLA quits BJD, says Naveen dancing to Tamil babu’s tune

Bhubaneswar: Alleging BJD President and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dancing to the tune of an IAS officer, former MLA Rama Ranjan Baliarsingh today resigned from the party.

Baliarsingh, who represents Satyabadi Assembly seat in Puri district, lashed out at Naveen while announcing his quit from the primary membership of the ruling party.

An independent MLA from 2004 to 2009, Baliarsingh had contested on a BJD ticket in 2014 in Assembly elections but lost to independent candidate Umakanta Samantray.

Baliarsingh got fumed only after Samantray joined BJD a few days after the elections.

The former MLA said the ruling party is being run by some IAS officers and Naveen has no control over it which is why many veteran leaders are quitting the party.

“Earlier the CM was working as per the directive of late Pyari Mohan Mohapatra and now he is being guided by a Tamil babu (IAS officer) from the third floor (State secretariat).” Baliarsingh alleged.

He further claimed that Naveen is no more controlling the party affairs as he has lost both direct and indirect control over it.

When asked about his next political move, the former legislator said he will take a decision in this regard after holding a discussion with his supporters in Satyabadi.

The BJD, however, rubbished the allegation saying Naveen is very much at the helm of the party.

“The CM is taking the final call and party programmes are being held in democratic way,” said BJD Spokesperson Amar Prasad Satpathy adding the party had given several responsibilities to Baliarsingh in the past.

Satpathy termed Baliarsingh’s statements are completely baseless.
