Former sarpanch critical in attack by miscreants in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Loknath Dalei, former Sarpanch of Kisini panchayat in Odisha’s Ganjam district, was critically injured in an attack by miscreants today.

According to reports, five-six youths attacked Dalei at Auto Nagar around 11.30 am. They initially threw chilli powder at his eyes and then attacked him with a sword. As locals gathered at the spot, they fled the place on motorcycles.

The former Sarpanch was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. After receiving information, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the accused. The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Dalei was attacked multiple times in the past, sources said.
