Former sarpanch hacked to death in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A former sarpanch of Salebhata panchayat under Naktideula police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was allegedly hacked to death by a group of miscreants last night.

According to reports, Parsuram Pradhan, the deceased, was chased by a group of armed miscreants possessing knives and lathis around 9 pm while he was returning home. They later attacked Pradhan with sharp weapons at Talasaburi here.

He was initially admitted to the Naktideula hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla, where doctor declared him dead.

Though the reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that a past incident pertaining to seeking of information under the Right to Information Act might have led to the murderous attack.

Police have started investigation after registering a murder case.
