Four airstrips in Odisha identified as potential airports under UDAN

Bhubaneswar: As many as four non-operational airstrips in Odisha have been identified as potential airports by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The four airstrips in Malkangiri, Hirakud, Baripada and Konark will be taken into consideration in the next round of UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme.

While Malkangiri and Hirakud airstrips come under the category of ‘Airports in proximity to tourist destinations’, Baripada and Konark airstrips belong to ‘Airports in proximity to spiritual places’ segment.

A total of 54 such airstrips of the country have been identified to be considered in the next round of UDAN.

Airstrips in Jeypore, Rourkela and Utkela in Odisha have already been included under UDAN scheme. However, operation was yet to commence from these airstrips.
