Four bullets recovered from gangster Hyder’s body during post mortem

Bhubaneswar/Balasore: A day after the death of gangster Sheikh Hyder in a police encounter, doctors today carried out the post mortem of Hyder and recovered four bullets. In presence of a Magistrate, doctors at the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital undertook the post mortem. The process has been also videographed.

Dr Sushant Nayak of the Balasore DHH said out of the four bullets, three pierced Hyder’s body during yesterday’s encounter whereas another was an old one. One bullet each was recovered from Hyder’s 11/12 rib and chest and two from thigh, the doctor added.

During a search prior to the post mortem, the police recovered a diary from the shirt pocket of Hyder.

Earlier in the day, in presence of scientific team, senior police officials including Cuttack Additional DCP Pramod Rath visited the spot near Simulia in Balasore district where the police encounter took place at around 3:20 PM yesterday. Two empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.

Hyder was critically injured in a police encounter near Simulia yesterday when he tried to escape during his shifting from Choudwar jail to Baripada Circle Jail. He  was rushed to the Balasore DHH where he succumbed to his injuries.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been in force in several areas of Kendrapara district from today morning till 11.00 AM of July 30, following the death of Hyder.

The district administration has taken the decision to avert untoward incident and communal tension in Kendrapara Municipality and Gram Panchayats Barimula, Kapalaeswar, Gulnagar and Jamdhar.

Gathering of more than five persons for any purpose has been prohibited. Only grocery, vegetable and non-vegetable shops have been allowed to operate from 07.00 AM to 11.00 AM. Only take away has been allowed in restaurants. Internal vehicular traffic has been restricted from 11 AM onwards every day.

A senior police official said a total of 10 officers, seven platoons of force and two Magistrates have been deployed in Kendrapara town and its outskirts.
