Four days after clash in Odisha village, man succumbs to injuries

Four days after the group clash at Ambagaon village under Jarada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district, a man who had sustained grievous injuries in the violence, died at a Visakhapatnam hospital during treatment today.

The deceased, identified as M Duryodhan (42), was undergoing treatment at Vishakhapatnam with severe injuries. He was first treated at Patrapur community health centre (CHC) and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here as his condition worsened, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Chikiti B K Nayak said.

Meanwhile, security has been fortified in the hamlet after the death of the villager. Though no fresh violence has been reported after the incident, police was deployed in the trouble-torn village to maintain law and order.

SDPO Chikiti and IIC Jarada were camping in the village to maintain peace. Besides, DIG (southern range) Amitav Thakur had also visited the strife torn village.

It may be recalled that the male members of the village, which has around 90 households, had fled after the incident fearing arrest.

As many as 22 persons have been arrested from both the groups. While three persons had sustained injuries in the group clash, over 40 thatched houses were set ablaze by rival groups and hurled bombs at each other.

One seriously injured person, who died today, was referred to a hospital at Visakhapatnam while other two were undergoing treatment at Jarada hospital.
