With the inflow of floodwater of river Mahanadi from the upper catchments having come down significantly in the last few hours, the Hirakud dam authorities at Burla in Odisha’s Sambalpur district closed four more gates of the reservoir this morning.
By 9 AM, the reservoir was receiving 1. 84, 321 lakh cusecs of water per second while 1, 31, 888 lakh cusecs of water per second was being released through six gates, dam officials said.
The water level of the reservoir was 618.08 feet at the time as against its optimum capacity of 630 feet, reports said.
