Four including two of dacoity gang arrested in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 3:

Two members of a dacoity gang were arrested by Commissionerate Police late on Sunday night from their native places, police said today.

dacoit gangA team of Commissionerate police and special squad officials, in a surprise raid, arrested two history-sheeters, having cases of loot, dacoity, rape and Arms Act pending against them at various police stations in Odisha capital. Besides, two receivers who had received the loot valuables from the accused were also arrested late on Sunday night.

The third accomplice of the gang, Niranjan Swain alias Nanda (36), of Beguniabasta in Puri district is still at large.

Briefing newsmen here today, Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said: “The Airfield police along with special squad officials nabbed the two persons identified as Nalu Swain (34) from Beguniabasta in Puri and K Simadri alias Tamada (22) from Raghunathpur under Infocity police limits in the city yesterday. Simadri hails from Palasa in Andhra Pradesh.”

As many as 56 cases including rape and dacoity were pending against Nanda and Nalu at Dhauli, Lingaraj, Saheed Nagar, Badagada, Laxmisagar, Mancheswar, Capital, Infocity, Balianta, Khandagiri, Mahila and Tamando police stations in last 14 years. Among these, 16 cases were pending against the duo at Chandrasekharpur police station, which is highest among the crime cases registered in any police station.

“We have also arrested the receivers- Ashok Kumar Sahoo (32) and Prakash Sahoo (28) of Sambhubharatipatna under Balanga police limits in Puri,” the Police Commissioner added.

Revealing the modus operandi of the accused Dr Sharma said, the accused persons used to come from Puri by bus and get down at Kalpana square more often in a month. They choose a hotel to stay in Bapuji nagar area from where they used to plan for loot. They randomly pick and strike their targets in the city.

The gang executes their plan with the help of torch light, iron rod, sharp weapons and arms to terrorize the house owners. After winding up the operation, the miscreants used to defecate at the premises of the target in order to mislead the dog squad in their investigation.

The police have seized 220 gram of gold ornaments, 100 gram silver, two laptops, three mobile phones and two wrist watches from their possession. They were forwarded to a local court here today.
