Four Maoists surrender, two others arrested in Odisha

Four Maoists including a female cadre operating in the Odisha-Jharkhand border, surrendered before the Rourkela police on Tuesday.

They have been identified as Rajesh Tapno alias Sudhir (35) of Topadihi village under K Balang police station, Anita Kandulana (20) of Langalkata, Man Kumar Bagta (20) of Pankadihi under Gurundia police station andAnil Soren alias Sau (16) of Bungaman village under Khunti district of Jharkhand.

“The four Maoists confessed to their involvement in several incidents of violence along Odisha-Jharkhand border, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Deogarh areas led by the senior cadres Anmol alias Samarji, Ajay Dehury andMisri Besra alias Sagar”, Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh told reporters.

The four Maoists decided to surrender due to highhandedness of their senior cadres, Singh said, adding that they would be provided with all assistance as announced by the Odisha government.

In another incident, two Maoists were arrested during a joint combing operation by SOG and DVF personnel inside the forest under Naktideula police station in Sambalpur district on Tuesday .

The arrested Maoists, identified as Sanjit Munda alias Ramesh and Bishwanath Bakta alias Akash, were part of Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundargarh (SDS) division.

A native of Tintilakat village of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, Sanjit had joined the organisation in 2010 after being influenced by Maoist leader Kunu Dehury while Bishwanath had joined the Maoist outfit three months back along with two other men. However, the details of those two men are yet to be known.

“We will interrogate Sanjit and Biswanath to elicit more information,” SOG assistant commandant Bijay Prakash Babu told reporters.
