Four more test positive for Omicron in Odisha; Tally rises to 8

Bhubaneswar: As many as four more persons have tested positive for Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Odisha. The four COVID-19 positive samples were sent to the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar.

The variant was detected after genome sequencing at the ILS.

Out of the four persons, two had returned from Nigeria, one from Dubai and one from Saudi Arabia. Two of them hail from Jagatsinghpur, one from Ganjam and one from Khordha.

With this, the tally of Omicron cases in the state surged to eight.

Odisha had on December 21 reported the first case of Omicron with two foreign returnees (Nigeria and Qatar) testing positive for the variant.

Later on December 23, two more cases of Omicron– 2 Nigeria returnees– were reported in the state.
