Four youths lynched, one grievously hurt in Odisha’s Koraput dist

Panic gripped Jeypore town in Odisha’s Koraput district after police recovered the bodies of four youths near Balia on Jeypore-Koraput road in the early morning hours today.

The incident came to light after some locals found the four scattered bodies lying on the road in the early morning hours.

Following information, a team of Jeypore police rushed to the spot.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the bodies of the four youths, whose age would be around 30-35 years, were chased by assailants who later crushed them with big stones which were lying near them.

The incident took place around midnight, police said.

Talking to the media, Koraput SP Charan Singh Meena said the deceased belong to Madhya Pradesh after verifying a driving license of a deceased. However, their identity was not known immediately, he added.

The SP also said that the police in the meanwhile, have detained 45 persons of three nearby villagers where the incident had taken place.

Police also found three vehicles—a Tata Safari, a Commander jeep and a motorcycle—which were torched by the assailants. Apart from this, some packets of ganja were also found from the Commander jeep.

As informed by the Jeypore SDPO, police have taken another youth, Bhagaban Nayak, who was grievously injured in the attack, to the Sadar Police Station.

While it was not known as to how and why such incident took place, sources in the locality said there were child theft incidents in this locality by a racket in the recent past.
