Freight train derails in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: As many as 14 wagons of a goods train derailed near Banabihari Gwalipur railway station in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district early this morning. However, no casualty has been reported in the accident.

According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) spokesperson J.P. Mishra, wagons of the Paradeep-Cuttack goods train loaded with imported coal derailed between Goraknath-Raghunathpur. No one was injured.

“The accident occurred at around 5.55 a.m. about 45 km from Cuttack and about 38 km from Paradeep,” Mishra said.

“The guard was the first to inform the nearest station. The Control Room was informed immediately,” he said.

Due to the derailment, 58406/58405, 58535/58536– Paradip-Cuttack-Paradip passenger and 18413– Paradip-Puri Express have been cancelled for today and 18414-Puri-Paradip Express will be short terminated at Cuttack.

ECoR General Manager Umesh Singh has ordered Khurda Road Division to set up an enquiry committee and submit a detailed report. All aspects of the accident, circumstances and reasons including fixing up of clear responsibility for the accident is to be mentioned in the enquiry report.

Mishra also said that one of the two lines was free for passage of trains. The affected line was expected to be restored by Saturday.

Relief trains were sought from Khurda Road and Sambalpur to carry out the rescue operation, said the official.

Braj Mohan Agarwal, DRM, Khurda Road reached the site and inspected the damage to the wagons and the track. Officers from Khurda Road Division concerned with track/wagons/signal and safety departments have also reached the site.

After detailed inspection, it has been reported from the site that 12 of the 14 wagons will be thrown off the track with the help of cranes as they have tilted/capsized and 2 wagons will be re-railed on the track.
