Fresh Low Pressure forms over Odisha; Warning issued for several districts

Bhubaneswar: A fresh Low Pressure Area has formed over West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, the Regional Meteorological Centre here said today.

“A cyclonic circulation developed over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood in today’s morning and under its influence a Low Pressure Area has formed over West Bengal & adjoining north Odisha with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8km above mean sea level,” the Meteorological Centre said.

Orange and Yellow warnings have been issued for several districts of Odisha in this connection.

Day 1(Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 19.10.2021)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj.

Impact

i) Water logging in low lying areas.

ii) Temporary traffic congestion in urban areas during intense spells.

iii) Rise of water level in River (Burhabalang and Subarnarekha basin).

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, and Jajpur.

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Day-2 (valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.10.2021 up to 0830 hrs IST of 20.10.2021)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Dhenkanal.

Fishermen warning: Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 gusting to 60 kmph likely over North Bay of Bengal, off Odisha coast till 19th October. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of North Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast till 19th October
