Gajapati Additional Collector dies while singing Jagannath bhajan; Odisha CM expresses grief

Bhubaneswar: Gajapati Additional Collector Birendra Kumar Das died of a heart attack while singing a Jagannath bhajan during a function in Paralakhemundi.

According to reports, the OAS officer collapsed while he was singing ‘Bhakata Bidura…’ a popular ‘bhajan’ (devotional song) dedicated to Lord Jagannath, on stage during an event hosted by the administrative officials at Brundaban Palace in Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district on Wednesday night.

He was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi in critical condition for treatment. Later, he was shifted to the MKCG Hospital in Berhampur, where he was declared dead.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed profound grief over the untimely death of the OAS officer.

Late Das was always working for the benefit of people as a sincere and responsible officer. He was lauded by all quarters for his high level of administrative skills. With his demise, the state lost a competent administrative officer, the CMO said in a statement.

The CM prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deepest condolence to the bereaved family.
