Galwan Martyr Nuduram Soren from Odisha accorded Vir Chakra

Bhubaneswar: Galwan valley martyr Naib Subedar Nuduram Soren from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was today accorded Vir Chakra posthumously for his gallant actions against attack by the Chinese Army in June last year during Operation Snow Leopard.

His wife received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi during the third session of Defence Investiture Ceremony.

Soren was earlier named for the Vir Chakra award in January, this year.

He was among the 20 soldiers martyred at Galwan Valley along the India-China border during a violent clash with Chinese troops.

Soren was serving in the 16th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment. He had joined the Indian army in 1997.

The martyr is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Another Odia jawan Chandrakant Pradhan from Kandhamal district was also martyred in the incident.
