Gangapur PS IIC’s death: PIL seeking CBI probe filed in Orissa High Court

Cuttack: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was today filed in the Orissa High Court seeking a CBI probe into the mysterious death of Dev Kumar Gamang, who was the IIC of Gangapur police station in Ganjam district.

Filing the PIL, the Bharatiya Vikash Parishad, an NGO, also demanded the polygraph test of two policemen who are suspects in the case.

The petitioner has mentioned the names of Bhanjanagar SDPO, IIC and 5 others as respondents in the petition.

On March 25, 40-year-old Gamang of Jeypore area in Koraput district succumbed to bullet injuries under mysterious circumstances at his quarters in Ganjam district. It is yet to be ascertained whether the firing was accidental or suicidal.

On the fateful day, Gamang hadn’t reported to work while his mother informed an SI of the Gangapur police station that he was unwell. Later, a doctor was sent to the quarters who gave him medicines.

At around noon of March 25, his mother heard gunshots and found Gamang lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the Aska sub-divisional hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Police had registered an unnatural death case into the incident.
