Earlier, the High Court had directed not to initiate any coercive action against the MLA while adjudicating a petition seeking quashing of the case on July 26.

Nearly a fortnight after the incident, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya and his elder brother had moved the Orissa high court on July 4 seeking anticipatory bail in connection with their alleged involvement in attacks on two Union ministers at Bargarh on June 24.

Following the incident, a case was registered under sections 147, 148, 341, 294, 506, 427, 323, 307 and 249 of the IPC at the Bargarh police station in connection with the attack on the ministers’ convoy while they were on their way to attend Vikas Utsav in the western Odisha town. At least 16 persons were also arrested in connection with this case.

Under attack from Opposition BJP, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had ordered for an RDC probe on June 28. Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North) was entrusted with the task to inquire into the matter.
