Ganja worth Rs 9 lakh seized, one held

Acting on a tip-off, officials of Prohibition and Excise Department arrested a ganja trader and seized around 90 kg of ganja worth Rs 9 lakh from his house in Badapari village under Tangi police station in Khurda district.

The accused, identified as Sarat Patra (40), was forwarded to court today.

Excise sleuths, headed by officer-in-charge Samuel Ekka, under the active supervision of district superintendent of police Harish Chandra Nayak, raided Sarat’s house on Tuesday night and recovered 90 kg of ganja from his possession.

A case has been registered against the accused under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, police said.

Sarat used to pack the contraband in pouches and sell it at the rate of Rs 10,000 per kg.
