Berhampur:  When Ganjam district administration has relaxed shutdown norms in all urban areas for three days from July 14 allowing citizens to purchase essential items, the COVID-19 cases in the district continue to rise with 188 fresh cases being reported in the last 24 hours.

Of the 543 new cases reported from the state today, Ganjam alone contributed 34.6% cases. The district also reported one more COVID-19 death today after a 80-year-old male patient, who was also suffering from diabetes and heart disease, succumbed to the deadly virus.

The fresh 188 cases included 12 Corona Warriors, five persons with travel history to other state and 171 persons with active contact with previous positive cases. All the new cases have been shifted to COVID hospitals, informed officials.

With the new cases, the number of active cases in the district rose to 1859. However, 2433 persons have recovered from the disease while as many as 44 succumbed to the virus.
