GC Ray takes charge as chief operations manager of ECoR

Guru Charan Ray, an officer of the 1983 batch of the Indian Railways Traffic Service (IRTS), has taken over as the new chief operations manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR).

He has taken over as the head of the operations wing of the highest-loading railway zone in the country at a crucial point of time when the zone has been given a tough target of 163 million tonnes of freight loading this fiscal year.

Prior to his taking over the new assignment, Ray was heading the vital transportation planning unit of ECoR.

He has had all-round experience of railway working and has served with distinction in the freight operations, coaching operations, safety, planning, public relations and general administration departments of the Railways.

His contribution to development of railway network and infrastructure to Odisha is best remembered for his successful tenure as commissioner, Rail Coordination, while on deputation to the Odisha government.

As the head of the operations department, his immediate priorities include achieving of the stiff loading target, improved punctual running of trains, putting infrastructure planning in place for the Nabakalebara festival, better logistics supply to industries and strategic connectivity to ports, an ECoR release said today.
