Groundbreaking done for 500 bed multispecialty hospital by Tata Steel at Sitalapalli in Odisha

The groundbreaking ceremony of 500 bed multispecialty hospital to be set up by Tata Steel was held today at Sitalapalli village in Ganjam district of Odisha was performed jointly by Dr. Pradeep Panigrahy, Minister for Higher Education, Science & Technology and State Rural Water Supply, and Mr. Cyrus P. Mistry, Chairman, Tata Group. Mr. TV Narendran, MD, Tata Steel, India & South East Asia, was also present on the occasion.

An advanced mobile medical unit to serve the people in need was also flagged off on the occasion. Four more mobile medical units will join the league shortly to provide primary health care facility to the people residing in the peripheral villages at their doorstep, covering nearly 30 villages in and around Gopalpur – Chhatrapur region, sources in Tata Steel said.

The hospital will spread over 44 acres and will have facilities in Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Paediatrics, ENT, Pathology with ultra-modern ICU, Emergency Services, and world class diagnostic facilities. The hospital will begin with 200 beds in the first phase with an estimated cost of around Rs. 100 crore and will gradually be scaled up to 500 beds, the sources said.

For setting up this hospital, Tata Steel has joined hands with ‘Medica Hospitals’, a Kolkata based healthcare specialist having expertise in implementing quality healthcare management systems in 100 hospitals spanning across 22 states in India and 6 countries including Yemen, Myanmar and South Africa.

The community and dignitaries from in and around Gopalpur region lauded the building of the long awaited new state-of-the-art health facility and the advanced mobile medical unit in the Berhampur-Gopalpur region.

Among others present during the groundbreaking ceremony at Gopalpur were Mr. Koushik Chatterjee, Group Executive Director, Finance & Corporate, Tata Steel; Mr. Anand Sen, President, TQM & Steel Business, Tata Steel; Mr. Arun Misra, VP, Gopalpur Project, Tata Steel, Mr. Sushanta Mishra, Chief, Gopalpur Project, Mr. Brajendra Khandelwal, Chief, Engineering, Gopalpur Project and other senior officials of Tata.
