Sambalpur: The Sasan police of Sambalpur district today arrested three persons at Gurupali village under Dhanakauda block in connection with a group clash over a Facebook post.

The trio identified as Narsinghpur Pani Panchayat Sarpanch Goutam Ranabida and two villagers- Kapilal Ranabida and Dharanidhar Bharasagar -were arrested following a written complaint at Sasan police station.

Sources said locals of Gurupali village had complained before the Narsinghpur Pani Panchayat Sarpanch about stopping of water supply from Sasan canal to their village. When no step was taken in this regard, some youths uploaded a post about the issue on Facebook that didn’t go well with the Pani Panchayat Sarpanch.

On December 3, Goutam had an argument with one one Laxman Bag and few other villagers over the issue that further led to a clash among them. Later, Laxman lodged a written complaint at police station, following which the cops detained Goutam Ranabida and two others.

However, no police official were available to comment on the matter.
