Bhubaneswar, June 15:
In a blood curdling incident, a man in the Odisha capital hacked his five-year old daughter and critically injured four other members of his family before attempting to commit suicide this morning.
Bhima Tangi Murder Case (3)The ghastly incident took place in a rented house in Baunsakhani in Old Town area of the city at about 9 am in the morning.
The man, identified as Subodh Sahu, attacked his wife, daughter, sister-in-law and niece with a sharp weapon locally called katuri killing his five-year old daughter on the spot and grievously injuring the three others.
Neighbours said they saw Subodh's wife Nabaneeta rushing out of the house oozing blood all over the place. When they went inside, they found the lifeless Simran in a poll of blood and his sister-in-law Ratnamani and niece Alibha with blood splattered all over the place.
Subodh himself was found hanging from a ceiling fan and was rescued by the neighbours. All the  injured were rushed to the Capital Hospital after the police was called in.
All the injured were shifted to the hospital in a PCR van as the 108 ambulance did not turn up despite numerous calls. "We must have called for the ambulance 108 times, but it did not come," a neigghbour told a local television channel.
Neighbours said Subodh had been staying with his wife and daughter  in the rented house in the Baunsakhani area for about two and half years along with his father, elder brother Govind, sister-in-law, a nephew and a niece. The nephew was on the first floor when the gruesome act happened, neighbours said.
"Subodh works in a hotel in Keonjhar and had come here five days ago for the Raja festival," said Pradip Kumar Prusty, a neighbour of the Sahus who helped shift the injured to the hospital.
Subodh's father Dukhishyam Sahu said his son had sent him away to the hospital for a check-up on his ailing ear before perpetrating the ghastly crime.
Though the reason for the senseless act is yet to be ascertained, neighbours say it was the fall-out of an extra-marital affair that Subodh allegedly had with a woman. The couple apparently had frequent fights over Subodh's alleged affair.
Another neighbour, however, said the dispute between the two was on account of Nabanita's insistence on staying separately from his brother's family. "Subodh used to resist it saying he had been staying with his elder brother since his childhood," he said requesting anonymity,
