The body of the deceased identified as Jamuna Khatua was found near Chandan Pokhari in the village in the wee hours today.

While the in-laws of the deceased claimed that she has committed suicide, her parents stressed that she has been murdered.

“My daughter had visited our house few days ago and asked for Rs 40, 000. I expressed my inability to give such a big amount. However, I had told her that I would help her with the amount once I arrange the money. My son-in-law had threatened me over phone that he would send my daughter’s body if I send her back. My daughter ignored it and went back to her in-laws place as her two children were there. I got a call from my son-in-law at around 1 am asking me to take my daughter as she has committed suicide by pouring kerosene on her,” Surendra Barik, father of the deceased alleged.

Meanwhile, police have detained the husband of the deceased–Rabindra Khatua—for interrogation.
