Has Government of India allowed Covid vaccination of children above 12 years?

New Delhi: At a time when the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic has been surging in the country, lots of fake news on the disease have been doing rounds in social media.

One such fake news is that the Government of India has approved vaccination of children above 12 years with Bharat Biotech’s Covid vaccine – Covaxin.

The Government of India in a statement said the piece of information is fake and it has not given any approval for vaccination of children above 12 years with Covaxin.

Worth mentioning, the Government has so far allowed 18+ to receive Covid vaccine during the third phase of its vaccination drive.

At present, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin vaccine and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield vaccine are being given to health workers, frontline workers, people above 45 years and persons in 18-44 age group.

As on May 9, 2021, 08:00 AM, India has reported a total of 2,22,96,414 Covid positive cases. Number of active cases stood at 37,36,648 (16.76%) whereas as many as 2,42,362 deaths have been registered across the country.
