HC grants conditional bail to Odisha godman Sura Baba’s sons

Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to self-styled Odisha godman Sura Baba alias Surendra Nath Mishra’s sons.

Single bench comprising Justice CR Dash heard the regular bail plea of Sura Baba’s sons– Trilochan Mishra and Biranchi Narayan Mishra. The court directed the duo to cooperate with the investigating agencies and fulfil the conditions to be laid by the lower court.

The court granted conditional bail in a case pending with the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Bhubaneswar.

Crime Branch has registered cases against the Mishra brothers including possessing arms at Trahi Achyuta Ashram, illegal land transactions, intimidating people among others.

It may be recalled that Sura Baba and his two sons were arrested by the Balipatna police in August last year.

The trio was arrested under section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC and section 3(I)(x) of the ST and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The trio is currently lodged in Jharpada Special Jail since August last.
