Heat wave: Mercury expected to rise from today in Odisha

Giving no respite from the heat, temperatures are expected to spike higher by two degrees in Bhubaneswar and adjoining coastal regions and by four degrees in Western Odisha for next ten days starting today according to the weather department.

The temperature will remain 45°Celsius to 47° Celsius today in parts of Odisha , according a notification by the regional meteorological department in Bhubaneswar. There is an expected heat wave till April 25 and its effects will be apparent from today.

The temperature is rising steadily and since April 17 the temperature has been 40°Celsius in the capital.  Yesterday, seven cities had recorded a temperature of  above 45° Celsius.  In various parts of the state 25 people were affected with sunstroke and admitted to hospital.

The number of deaths related to sun stroke has reached 59, according to sources. Bhubaneswar meteorological department director Sarat Chandra Sahu said the wind speed will increase and for the ten days of the heat wave to will be dry and without rainfall.
