Heavy exchange of fire between BSF, Maoists on Odisha-C’Garh border

There are reports of a heavy exchange of fire between the Maoists and the BSF personnel inside the Bens forest area under Haldi panchayat of Raighar block in Nabarangpur district along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

The gun fight that began on Friday afternoon continued till Saturday morning, reports said.

Reports said the BSF personnel had surrounded the forest.

Sources said a team of BSF personnel began a combing operation inside the forest at about 3 PM on Friday following a tip-off about a mass feast organized by the Maoists inside the forest area.

Informed about the advancing BSF team, the Maoists started firing at them and the latter retaliated.

The crossfire continued through the night, reports said.

Meanwhile, another BSF team from 77 Battalion which is camping at Phutanada of Gona panchayat in Chhattisgarh have sealed the border area.
