Heavy rain disrupts train services in south Odisha

Train services between Koraput and Jagdalpur sections in south Odisha have been disrupted due to heavy rains since Sunday night.

stranded trainAccording to reports, 18211- Durg-Jagdalpur Express and a Jagdalpur bound goods train have been detained en route due to fallen boulders, large trees and mud on the track between Jarti and Maliguda stations around midnight on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the railway relief team arrived on the spot by foot and brought back 77 stranded passengers of the Express train to Jarati station and provided them with food and water.

Arrangements are being made to send the passengers to their respective destinations by road, Railway sources said.

Senior railway officials from Koraput and Jagdalpur have already reached the site to clear the obstruction on the tracks and to resume train operations while officials from Visakhapatnam, the headquarters of the Railway Division, are also on the way to join the work.

The work is going on a war-footing and is expected to be completed very soon.

Due to obstruction of the tracks, the railway authorities have cancelled 18448 Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express, 18006-Jagdalpur-Howrah Samaleswari Express and 18212 Jagdalpur-Durg Express between Jagdalpur and Koraput.

Besides, 18448 Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express and 58501/58502 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Passenger will run from Koraput while 18005-Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express has been short-terminated at Titlagarh and will run as 18006-Jagdalpur-Howrah Samaleswari Express from Titlagarh as per the scheduled time today.

Apart from this, the 18447 Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express will run up to Koraput on its scheduled time from Bhubaneswar today.
