Heavy rainfall forecast in Odisha due to Deep Depression over Bay

Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal, which is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, would trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower likely to occur at a few places over districts of Odisha on December 16, at many places over districts of interior Odisha and a few places over districts of coastal Odisha on December 17 and at a few places over districts of Odisha on December 18, a bulletin of the IMD said.

It also warned of isolated heavy rainfall over districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on December 17. Distance Cautionary Signal No-I has been hoisted at all ports of Odisha.

The system is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada during December 17 afternoon.
