Heavy rainfall likely in Odisha despite depression’s weakening

Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours even as the depression over coastal Odisha & neighbourhood weakened into a well marked low pressure area.

“The Depression over Coastal Odisha & neighbourhood weakened into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area and lay centered over Interior Odisha & neighbourhood. Associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” a bulletin of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

It further forecasted that heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of interior Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of coastal Odisha likely to occur during the next 24 hours.

Strong gusty surface wind from southeasterly direction in north Odisha coast and southwesterly direction in south Odisha coast with speed reaching 45-55 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast, it added.

Sea condition would be rough to very rough for which fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.
