Heavyweights woo voters as Kandhamal poll campaign ends

Pledging to continue with the development programme for tribals and dalits, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today urged people to vote for BJD candidates during his campaign for the two urban local bodies (ULB) elections in Kandhamal district scheduled to be held on December 2.

Addressing separate public meetings at G Udaygiri and Phulbani, Patnaik said his government was committed to work for the development of adivasis and dalits.

While senior BJP leader Ashok Sahu and the party’s former state president Jual Oram canvassed for their party’s candidates, senior Congress leader and former minister Bijaylaxmi Sahoo campaigned for her party’s candidates on the last day of the campaigning for the December 2 polls.

As many as 71 candidates and 50 candidates are in the fray for the ULB election for Phulbani and G Udayagiri ULB election respectively.

Official sources said while 25947 voters, including 12201 females, will be exercising their franchise in Phulbani, 7066 voters in G Udayagiri ULBs will be electing their civic representatives in the ensuing ULB elections.

While the BJD holds the Phulbani assembly seat, the G Udaygiri seat is held by BJP.
