Reported by Chinmaya Dehury

Bhubaneswar, Mar 16:

As anticipated, Hema Gamang who was inducted  into the BJD on Sunday evening would not be given the ticket for the Koraput Lok Sabha seat. Instead she will be contesting the Laxmipur assembly seat in Koraput district, The seat is now being held by BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka, Hema joining BJD

Hema, who had met the chief minister yesterday, had  expressed her desire to contest from Koraput Lok Sabha constituency against her husband and Congress candidate Giridhar Gamang.

“I will contest on a BJD ticket from Laxmipur Assembly seat in order in deference to the wishes of the people,” Hema Gamang said after BJD chief announced her induction into the party.

It is clear now that she was inducted into the party under the condition that she would not insist on the Koraput Lok Sabha seat.

Sources in the BJD confirmed that there was stiff opposition within the party to the idea of giving the spouse of former chief minister and senior Congress leader Giridhari Gamang the ticket for the Koraput parliamentary constituency.
